Out of total rubber used, 60% to 70% of account goes to synthetic rubbers. Synthetic rubbers are sourced from various petroleum products, i.e. Hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons are reacted and treated under control conditions to form the polymers from which synthetic rubbers are developed. They are used in tyre inner tubes & other products, which require good barrier against gases. Further, the thermal resistance of these rubbers makes them extremely suitable for use in automotive radiator hoses. Acrylic elastomers is another typed of synthetic rubbers that are used in various applications like, as spark plug boots, hoses and ignition wire jacketing where superior oil resistance feature play a crucial role.
